Srilanka, Led by a masterclass 42 off 36 deliveries by captain Jayawardene and a brilliant spell of skilful and crafty spin bowling by Rangana Herath in which he picked up 3 crucial wickets, the hosts toppled Pakistan by 16 runs to enter the final of the World T20 at the Premadasa in Colombo.
Pakistan thrashed Australia by 32 runs at the Premadasa in Colombo courtesy some fantastic bowling by the spin trio of Hasan, Ajmal and Hafeez. Chasing a competitive 149 for 6 set by Pakistan, Australia could only muster a paltry 117 for 7 off their 20 overs.
India broke the three year old jinx of not being able to win a single game in the Super 8 stages of the T20 World Cup when they managed to beat Pakistan by a comfortable fashion to stay alive in 2012 edition of the tournament. Having bowled out Pakistan for 128, India managed to reach the target in 17 overs with 8 wickets in hand. Virat Kohli was the star with the bat, scoring an unbeaten 78 off 61 balls while Yuvraj Singh (2/16), R Ashwin (2/16) and L Balaji (3/22) did most of the damage with the ball.
South Africa won the toss and chose to bat, but the pakistan spinners restricted them to 133. Pak started briskly scoring 24 in no time, before the spinners came in and reduced them to 76/7. Umar Gul slammed a brilliant 32 off just 17 balls while Umar Akmal played a vital knock of 40 to help Pakistan comeback from 76/7 to clinch a morale-boosting win by 2 wickets.

Pakistan survived a late scare from Ross Taylor to secure a 13 run victory against New Zealand in their opening match of this edition of the World T20. The win for Pakistan though has ensured a qualification for New Zealand to the Super 8s stage as the Kiwis still hold a superior run-rate amongst the three teams in their group. Pakistan too have a foot into the next round. Only a huge loss against Bangladesh would deny them an entry to the next stage.
